Named "Il Santo", the church is one of the most famous sanctuary of the world, was built in roman-gothic style from 1232 to half of '300 to accept the grave of Saint Anthony of Padua. It's very rich or art works, as the marvellous bronzes by Donatello.

S. Giustina: Grand brick building (XVI sec.), surmounted by eight domes. The bell tower (1599) stands upon the original medieval shaft. Palazzo della Ragione (Palace of Reason): Named "Salone", is a solemn building with quadrilateral plan, built in 1218-19 as lawcourt; enlarged in 1306-1309, with loggias outside and hull roof, it was damaged by fire in 1420. It faces on one side "Piazza delle Erbe", place of a big fruit market, on the other side. Piazza dei Signori (Square of the Lords): The square is enriched by Loggia del Consiglio (1496-1533) and by Triumph Arch, with a beatiful clock (1344), the first in Italy, restored in 1437. Eremitani Church: Built in roman-gothic style from 1276 to 1306, the church was reconstructed after the bombing raid of 1944. Famous frescos inside. |
